Phil Settels, L.Ac.
Phil obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and was on track for a career in Materials Science when some formative encounters with medicine made him change course.
Phil had had played sports all his life, and 10 years of playing rugby had taken a toll on his body (broken bones, countless sprains and strains, and persistent back pain). He also suffered from chronic digestive problems that proved difficult to diagnose. He'd been to many healthcare providers throughout his life, and figured he’d simply have to live with the aches, pains and discomfort. It wasn’t until he’d experienced acupuncture and herbal medicine that things really began to turn around for him.
Phil then moved to Oakland, California to pursue a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences (ACCHS). The more he learned, the more he fell in love with all facets of Chinese Medicine. He loved how simple, low tech interventions could have such profound effects to help people feel better from pain and disease.
Chinese Medicine is not just Phil’s job, it’s his passion. In order to learn from the best teachers available, Phil has traveled throughout the US and China, and will soon complete two doctorate degrees (a 4-yr PhD in China and a 2-yr DAOM in the US). All this allows him to continually learn so that he can improve the lives of his patients back home.
Phil’s hundreds of hours of advanced training allow him to specialize in treating pain and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as complex and chronic conditions such as digestive problems, autoimmune disorders, etc.
After several years in private practice, Phil returned to the school, where he is now the Dean of Academics as well as a faculty member in both the Master's and Doctorate programs.
During the course of his career, Phil has trained with several of the top Chinese Medical physicians in the US and China, obtaining certificates in:

Advanced Herbal Studies with Dr. Feng Shi Lun of the Hu Xi Shu Institute, Beijing, China (80 hours, 2014)
