The 4th of July is the perfect time to support your local restaurants and bars, who are rolling out specials, exciting programming, and events with a heaping side of patriotism!

From fireworks displays to BBQ feasts, seafood delicacies, and special events, there’s something for everyone. So, grab your friends and family and head out to your local favorites to savor the flavors and celebrate the 4th of July in San Diego.

Where to Dine and Celebrate

The Smoking Gun

The Smoking Gun is going full Americana with a hot dog eating contest that sounds absolutely ridiculous and completely necessary.

They’re opening at noon on the Fourth with Freedom Buckets of beer for $20 and an All-American Special that gets you beer, burger, and fries for fifteen bucks—which honestly feels like the most patriotic deal in town.

But let’s talk about this hot dog contest. Five minutes, as many dogs as you can handle, buns included, with prizes for the top three finishers. Everyone gets a Smoking Gun t-shirt, which seems fair compensation for whatever dignity you’re about to sacrifice.

We love that they’re leaning into the competitive eating tradition—it’s messy, wild, and unforgettable, just like they promised. Plus, even if you don’t compete, watching people go full Joey Chestnut is peak Fourth of July entertainment.

📆 Friday, July 4, 12 PM–close (hot dog contest at 2 PM)
📍 555 Market St, San Diego
🎟 Contest sign-up here

Cloak & Petal

Leave it to Cloak & Petal to put their own spin on Fourth of July with a menu that’s equal parts patriotic and perfectly on-brand for Little Italy’s most creative Japanese spot. They’re serving up exclusively July 4th specials that somehow make total sense—think Freedom Glizzy meets sashimi.

The cocktail game is strong with the Aphrodisiac featuring fresh pressed watermelon and ginger, plus a Stars & Spritz that’s basically summer in a glass at ten bucks.

But we’re most curious about the Freedom Glizzy—panic-fried Angus beef dawg with stone-ground mustard and backyard BBQ pork belly baked beans. It’s like they took a classic American hot dog and gave it the full Cloak & Petal treatment.

Don’t sleep on the Ahi Shroomer Roll either—shiitake mushroom, pepper crusted ahi, and gochugaru aioli feels like the perfect bridge between celebration and sophistication.

📆 Friday, July 4 (specials available all day)
📍1953 India St, Little Italy

barleymash

barleymash is going full patriot mode for their “Big Boom” celebration, and we’re here for this perfectly planned downtown setup. They’ve got the corner of Fifth and Market locked down with pre-boom BBQ, post-boom bottles, and DJs spinning all day and night.

The cocktail lineup alone is worth the trip—we’re talking Big Badda Boom with Grey Goose Peach and rosemary bubbles, plus the Instagram-ready Red, White and Party that’s basically summer in a glass with its layered colors.

But let’s talk about the Double Dawg Dare Ya—it’s hot dog charcuterie, which sounds ridiculous and amazing at the same time. Beef hot dog, bratwurst, all the toppings, plus their house-made crinkle cuts.

The party keeps rolling at ginger’s upstairs, so you’re covered from afternoon BBQ through late-night dancing.

📆 Friday, July 4, all day and night (ginger’s 8:30 PM–12:30 AM)
📍 600 Fifth Ave #6916, San Diego

Dive at The Bower

When you want to guarantee the best fireworks view without any of the usual Fourth of July chaos, Dive at The Bower has the ultimate setup.

As Coronado’s only rooftop bar, they’re literally offering front-row seats to the city’s fireworks show, which makes that $114 ticket price feel like premium positioning rather than just premium pricing.

The Red, White, & Bower experience includes tray-passed summer bites and curated drinks—beer, wine, and sparkling—while you take in panoramic views stretching from Point Loma all the way to Mexico.

It’s the kind of elevated celebration where you actually get to enjoy the fireworks instead of craning your neck around someone’s phone.

This feels like the move when you want to treat the Fourth like the special occasion it is, especially since Coronado’s island location means you’re already removed from the downtown madness.

📆 Friday, July 4, 7 PM–9:30 PM
🎟 $114 per person on OpenTable

Fairmont Grand Del Mar

We’re trading traditional fireworks for something way cooler this Fourth of July. Fairmont Grand Del Mar is hosting Red, White & Brews Night at Grand Social, and honestly, it sounds like the perfect celebration without the usual crowds.

The evening kicks off with wood-fired cuisine and live entertainment from Cedrice in that relaxed, upscale vibe Grand Social does so well. But here’s where it gets interesting—instead of explosive finales, they’re doing an eco-friendly drone show on the lawn.

We’re talking hundreds of choreographed lights creating patterns across the canyon backdrop, which means all the visual impact without noise complaints from your dog.

The whole setup feels thoughtfully planned for families and anyone wanting a more sophisticated patriotic celebration.

📆 Friday, July 4, 6:30 PM–10 PM (drone show at 9 PM)
📍 5300 Grand Del Mar Ct, San Diego
🎟 Make your reservations on OpenTable

4th of July specials

Sandpiper

Sometimes the best Fourth of July plan is the simplest one. Sandpiper in La Jolla Shores is extending their hours to include lunch service starting at noon, which means you can fuel up before hitting the beach that’s literally a five-minute walk away.

We love this setup because it’s not trying to be the biggest Fourth of July party in town—it’s just good food in the perfect location. Their Baja fish tacos and classic smash burgers hit different when you’re this close to the ocean, and those $10 Sandpiper margaritas (passion or strawberry) are exactly what beach day calls for.

📆 Friday, July 4, 12 PM–close
📍 2259 Avenida De La Playa, La Jolla
ℹ More info here

Spill the Beans

Spill the Beans gets it—you need proper fuel before a full day of Fourth of July festivities. Their Seaport Village location is opening early with special hours, which is perfect timing if you want to caffeinate and carb-load before claiming your Big Bay Boom spot.

The $5 hot chocolate is a Seaport Village exclusive, which feels like a nice little insider perk. But honestly, we’re here for those enormous bagel sands and handcrafted coffee—the kind of substantial breakfast that’ll carry you through hours of sun, crowds, and patriotic celebrations.

This feels like the smart move for anyone who knows the Fourth of July is a marathon, not a sprint. Get your coffee situation handled early, grab something filling, and you’re set up for success before the rest of downtown even wakes up.

📆 Friday, July 4, 6 AM–10 AM (special hours)
📍 813 W Harbor Dr Unit C-7, San Diego
ℹ More info here

The Rooftop Bar

The Rooftop Bar at Mission Pacific is throwing the kind of Fourth of July party that makes you forget about downtown crowds entirely. They’re hosting the annual military flyover, which honestly sounds way cooler than fighting for fireworks views—there’s something about military aircraft overhead that hits different for Independence Day.

Expect to see world-renowned Flores Brothers spinning dance-driven house and hip hop for their “Gotsoul Sessions,” plus BBQ specials and VIP cabana options. We love that they’re starting early and building momentum toward the flyover rather than cramming everything into one chaotic evening window.

Oceanside’s laid-back beach town energy feels perfect for this kind of all-day celebration, especially when you’re watching military precision from a rooftop bar overlooking the Pacific. Sometimes the best patriotic moment is the one that doesn’t involve elbowing through crowds.

Cococabana

We’re extending the Fourth of July celebration into Saturday at Cococabana, and honestly, this might be the move. The rooftop spot at The Brick Hotel in downtown Oceanside is doing a specialty BBQ menu, and those North County ocean views are unbeatable.

The menu keeps it classic—burgers, hot dogs, ribs, potato salad, and corn on the cob—which is exactly what you want when you’re celebrating with your crew on a rooftop.

Sometimes the best parties happen when you’re not fighting downtown San Diego crowds, and Oceanside’s laid-back vibe feels perfect for a Saturday wind-down.

Plus, there’s something special about watching the sunset over the ocean with a cold drink and good BBQ. Consider this your excuse to make the holiday weekend last a little longer.

📆 Saturday, July 5, 3 PM–9 PM
📍 408 Pier View Wy Suite 401, Oceanside
ℹ More info here

Mission Bay Resort

We found the ultimate lazy person’s fireworks viewing setup, and it involves zero traffic stress. San Diego Mission Bay Resort is turning their poolside bar, Solrisa, into prime SeaWorld fireworks real estate, which means you can watch the show with a cocktail in hand and your feet practically in the sand.

The resort’s going all-out with the family-friendly festivities—we’re talking dive-in movies, beachside bonfires for s’mores, and that classic summer combo of popsicles and snow cones. Plus, Patron’s doing vendor activations, so the adult beverages are definitely covered.

SeaWorld’s running their fireworks multiple nights, which gives you options if you want to avoid the main event crowds. Their Summer Starts Now package gets you 10% off plus $200 resort credit, making this staycation move even more tempting.

San Diego Mission Bay Resort

📆 July 1–4 (Fireworks July 1–3 at 9:50 PM, July 4 at 10:50 PM)

Sally’s

Sally’s at Manchester Grand Hyatt is giving you options for Fourth of July, and we appreciate the range.

Stars & S’mores

If you want the low-key family approach, their Stars & S’mores event is completely free—just show up to the back patio fire pit for complimentary s’mores with Big Bay Boom views. No reservations, no stress, just marshmallows and fireworks.

Boardwalk Boom

But if you’re feeling fancy, Sally’s Boardwalk Boom offers front-row fireworks dining with elevated coastal cuisine. The Standard Experience has a $300 food and beverage minimum, while the Waterfront Experience bumps it to $600 for the absolute best views.

We love that they’re covering both ends of the celebration spectrum—whether you want to spend nothing or go all-out, you’re still getting prime waterfront positioning just steps from all the Big Bay Boom action.

Sally's at Manchester Grand Hyatt

📆 Friday, July 4 | S’mores: 6:30–9:30 PM | Dining: 7 PM+

Kona Kai

When you want to go big for the Fourth, you go to Big Bay Boom—and Kona Kai has literally the best seats in the house. We’re talking front-row views of California’s largest fireworks display right from their waterfront property in Point Loma.

The resort’s doing it right with an all-American BBQ at their breezy Tiki Bar, complete with Maui Brewing Co. pairings because nothing says patriotic like craft beer with bay views.

They’ve got the full summer lineup covered—lawn games, s’mores kits for the beachside firepit, and waterfront cabana rentals if you want to claim your spot early and relax in style.

Honestly, the combination of avoiding downtown crowds while still getting prime fireworks viewing feels like winning the Fourth of July lottery. Plus, you’re already at a resort, so the post-fireworks wind-down situation is handled.

Arely’s

Sometimes the best contribution to a Fourth of July gathering is showing up with the desserts handled, and Arely’s Patisserie has you covered. Their themed cupcakes are going for $2.75 each, which feels like a steal for French bakery quality with patriotic flair.

We love that they’re thinking beyond just cupcakes too—mixed fruit tarts and strawberry shortcake hit that perfect summer note, and honestly, fresh strawberries feel more seasonally appropriate than another flag-themed dessert.

Plus, if you’re hosting or heading to a potluck, their catered sandwich trays solve the “what should we eat during the day” question.

The 24-hour advance order requirement is worth noting if you want to go the catering route, but walk-in cupcakes seem fair game. Either way, this feels like the move when you want to contribute something that actually tastes as good as it looks.

📆 Friday, July 4
📍 4961 Clairemont Dr A, San Diego

Carnitas’ Snack Shack

Carnitas’ Snack Shack is throwing their annual Fourth of July party, and the best part? It’s completely free with extended hours! Their Embarcadero location means you’re getting solid Big Bay Boom views without paying a cover charge.

They’re going all-out with live DJs throughout the day and evening, portable bar service, and lawn games for that perfect laid-back San Diego vibe. The 13-hour event means you can drop in whenever works for your schedule—grab lunch, stay for the fireworks, or just show up for the post-boom nightcap.

We love that they’re keeping it accessible and all-ages while still delivering the full Fourth of July experience. Sometimes the best celebrations are the ones where you can just show up, eat great food, and watch fireworks without the stress of tickets or reservations.

📆 Friday, July 4, 11 AM–12 AM | Fireworks 9 PM–9:20 PM
📍 1004 North Harbor Drive, San Diego
ℹ More info here

Hudson & Nash

Sometimes the best Fourth of July plan is the simplest one—great food, waterfront views, and front-row seats to the fireworks. Hudson & Nash at Hilton San Diego Bayfront is serving up their All-American buffet with arguably one of the best vantage points in the city.

The waterfront kitchen’s setup means you’re literally dining with the bay as your backdrop, and when those fireworks start going off, you won’t need to crane your neck or fight for space. You can watch from your table or step out onto the hotel’s park lawn for the full experience.

Hudson and Nash

We love that they’re doing buffet-style for this—no waiting around for courses when you want to focus on the show. Plus, endless dishes mean you can fuel up properly for a night of celebrating.

📆 Friday, July 4, 5 PM–7:30 PM (fireworks viewing at 7:30 PM)
📍 1 Park Blvd, San Diego
🎟 Make your reservations on OpenTable
ℹ More info here

Harbor & Sky Rooftop Bar

Harbor & Sky Rooftop Bar is going full spectacle for their Fourth of July celebration, and we’re talking about way more than just fireworks viewing. They’re hosting an all-you-can-eat barbecue buffet, live DJ, and—wait for it—circus performances by Twisted Orbit Circus, because apparently regular Fourth of July wasn’t exciting enough.

The setup includes premier viewing of three simultaneous firework displays during Big Bay Boom, plus photo booth, outdoor games, and plenty of terrace seating on a first-come basis.

The barbecue buffet includes marinated BBQ chicken, beef hot dogs, cheeseburger sliders, and all the sides, plus lemonade and iced tea.

At $115 for adults and $55 for kids, it’s definitely an investment, but VIP cabanas for six people with dedicated servers and champagne toasts are available if you want to go completely over the top.

📆 Friday, July 4, 5 PM–10 PM (Fireworks at 9 PM)
📍 900 Bayfront Court, San Diego
🎟 $115 adults/$55 kids on Eventbrite

Where to Party

Almost Nakey Freedom Fest

Almost Nakey Freedom Fest is back for its fifth year, and they’re celebrating both their anniversary and Belmont Park’s 100th birthday with what promises to be their biggest party yet. Happening at Beach House, this feels like the perfect post-Fourth of July recovery session with that classic Mission Beach energy.

They’re promising a re-imagined main stage plus special stages, massive inflatables, experiential activations, and “big surprises”—which honestly sounds like the kind of chaotic beach party that San Diego does better than anywhere else. The timing works perfectly as a Saturday wind-down after Friday’s fireworks madness.

The fact that they’re marking five years of Almost Nakey parties alongside Belmont Park’s centennial feels like the kind of San Diego milestone celebration that deserves attention. Sometimes the best Fourth of July weekend move is extending the party into Saturday with beach vibes and whatever those massive inflatables turn out to be.

📆 Saturday, July 5, 2 PM–10 PM
📍 3146 Mission Blvd, San Diego
🎟 Buy tickets here

Frontwave Arena’s Inaugural Plaza Party

Frontwave Arena is launching their first-ever Party in the Plaza, and they’re making it a proper celebration with DJ sets, premium drinks, and front-row seats to Oceanside’s fireworks display. Happening at the Safari Park Plaza, this feels like a sophisticated pre-Fourth warm-up.

The setup ranges from $25 GA (where you can bring lawn chairs) all the way up to $50 VIP tables with dedicated servers and the best fireworks views.

We’re intrigued by signature cocktails like the Firework Fizz with Casamigos Blanco and Boom Berry Lemonade, plus local craft beers from Burgeon, Carlsbad Brewing, and Pizza Port exclusively in the VIP lounge.

DJ Camacho is handling the high-energy soundtrack, and the community activations from sponsors like Monster Energy suggest they’re going full festival mode. For $25–50, getting premier fireworks viewing with craft cocktails and no crowd chaos feels like the smart Thursday night move before the Friday madness.

📆 Thursday, July 3, 7 PM–11 PM (21+ only)
📍 3475 Hero Dr, Oceanside
🎟 Get your tickets on AXS | VIP tables sold in groups of 4–6 can be booked here

Chere Amie Yacht Party

Why fight crowds on the bayfront when you can watch Big Bay Boom from the water itself? This 90-foot yacht cruise aboard the Chere Amie puts you right in the action with complimentary boarding champagne, two decks, and a dance floor that’ll be bumping with top hits while fireworks explode overhead.

The 21+ cruise includes a fully stocked bar serving patriotic signature cocktails, plus VIP bottle service if you want to go all out. They’re encouraging festive patriotic attire, which honestly sounds like the perfect excuse to break out that red, white, and blue outfit you’ve been saving.

With breathtaking views of the downtown skyline, Coronado Bridge, and the entire bay as your backdrop, this feels like the ultimate way to celebrate America’s birthday on the water.

📆 Friday, July 4, 7:30 PM–10:30 PM (Check-in at 7 PM)

The Space Between: Texture Studies by Denja Harris opens this month at Oceanside Museum of Art, showcasing the innovative yarn paintings of a South Bay artist who’s redefining fiber art’s place in contemporary galleries.

Harris’s experimental approach to what she calls “yarn paintings” challenges traditional art hierarchies while exploring the intersection of emotion, material, and meaning.

Denja Harris

Meet the Artist

Denja Harris represents a new generation of artists who refuse to be confined by traditional categories. Working out of San Diego‘s South Bay, she creates experimental soft sculptures that blur the lines between painting, sculpture, and textile art.

Her approach is refreshingly intuitive, building layered, free-form abstract patterns that develop organically rather than following predetermined plans.

What makes Harris’s work particularly compelling is her commitment to sustainable practices. She intentionally sources second-hand and dead-stock yarn, transforming discarded materials into vibrant new artworks.

This approach adds another layer of meaning to pieces that already explore themes of healing, vulnerability, and connection.

Breaking Down Boundaries

Harris tackles something important with her work—the artificial hierarchy that places “fine art” above “craft.” By using yarn, a material traditionally associated with domesticity and cultural storytelling, she challenges institutions to reconsider what belongs in gallery spaces.

Her vibrant woven and draped pieces demand to be taken seriously as fine art while honoring the material’s rich cultural history.

The exhibition title perfectly captures Harris’s exploration of liminal spaces where emotion, material, and meaning intersect. Her work invites us to consider how color, pattern, and texture can create sites of genuine human connection.

The Visual Experience

Harris’s creations offer what OMA describes as a “visual sensory experience.” These aren’t static wall hangings but dynamic pieces that engage with space and light in ways that change as we move around them.

The free-form patterns and organic development of each piece mean we discover new details and relationships the longer we spend with them.

Her improvisational approach—using experimentation as both a starting point and a response mechanism—creates works that feel alive and immediate, capturing something essential about the creative process itself.

Recognition and Community

Harris has been building recognition throughout San Diego’s art community, with exhibitions and workshops at respected institutions like Mingei International Museum, San Diego City College, and Art Produce.

This solo exhibition at OMA represents a significant step in her career and brings her innovative approach to a wider audience.

Celebration and Context

The museum will host an Exhibition Celebration that promises to be special, as it will also celebrate two other new exhibitions—Fabulous Fiber and The Art of Surfing—creating an evening that showcases different aspects of contemporary California art and culture.

Let’s talk about ramen for a minute. Not the kind you survived on in college (though no judgment here), but the real deal—the soul-warming, perfectly crafted bowls that make you understand why people wait in line for 45 minutes just to slurp noodles. When you’re searching for the best ramen in San Diego, the scene has quietly become one of the most impressive culinary experiences you can have, with spots scattered throughout our sprawling city.

Finding where to get authentic, exceptional ramen used to mean making a pilgrimage to Convoy Street and hoping for the best. Now? We’ve got Michelin-recognized spots, James Beard-worthy chefs, and enough variety to keep your noodle obsession satisfied year-round.

Whether you’re craving traditional tonkotsu that’s been simmering for 24 hours or innovative fusion that would make purists clutch their chopsticks, we’ve mapped out exactly where to go.

San Diego’s Ramen Royalty

Menya Ultra

Clairemont Mesa, La Jolla & Mira Mesa | Traditional Japanese

When San Diego Magazine’s food critic Troy Johnson calls a place potentially “San Diego’s best ramen,” you listen. Menya Ultra has been selected in the Michelin Guide California and makes fresh noodles and soup every day.
This is the real deal—a Japanese import that’s been crushing it since 2017.

Chef-owner Takashi Endo won the national ramen competition in Tokyo four years in a row, so yeah, he knows what he’s doing.

The tonkotsu here is exactly what you want: rich, creamy, and complex without being overwhelming. The homemade noodles have that perfect chew, and everything from the chashu to the soft-boiled eggs is executed flawlessly.

Fair warning: there’s usually a wait, especially at the original Clairemont location. Arrive 20 minutes prior and get on the waitlist—your party must be present to be seated and you only get a 5-minute grace period.

Must-Try: Tonkotsu ramen with extra chashu

Locations: 8199 Clairemont Mesa Blvd (original), 4577 La Jolla Village Dr, 8141 Mira Mesa Blvd

Baikohken Ramen

Hillcrest | Michelin-Recognized

Michelin recognized Baikohken Ramen in its Hokkaido guide in 2012 and 2017, and now San Diego gets to experience what all the fuss is about.

This is their second US location (after Hawaii) and first on the mainland, taking over the former Menya Ultra space in Hillcrest.

What sets Baikohken apart is their ability to honor tradition while pushing boundaries. They nail the classic shoyu, miso, and shio bases while adding subtle innovations that make each bowl memorable. This is sophisticated ramen that respects the craft.

Must-Try: Their signature shoyu ramen

Location: 690 University Ave

RakiRaki Ramen & Tsukemen

Convoy, Little Italy & Mira Mesa | Chef-Driven

Chef Junya Watanabe was eager to showcase popular concepts from his Tokyo restaurants, Yuboku and Hachibei, to the San Diego audience. The result? One of San Diego’s most consistently packed ramen spots that’s been holding it down since 2012.

Watanabe successfully invented mochi noodles, which incorporate mochi into the noodles to achieve the ultimate texture and taste.

The broths here are cooked for 8–10 hours daily, and everything comes out “flame-blistered” for extra flavor and texture. The Black Edition (with charcoal-roasted garlic oil) and Red Edition (spicy fermented chili) are the crowd favorites.

Must-Try: Black Edition ramen or try the tsukemen (dipping noodles)

Locations: 4646 Convoy St (original), 2254 India St, 8973 Mira Mesa Blvd

The Neighborhood Favorites: Local Legends

Nishiki Ramen

Kearny Mesa & Hillcrest | House-Made Everything

Nishiki Ramen is a Japanese family-owned restaurant with owner Mike Furuichi, who was born and raised in Tokyo and brings the nostalgic flavors of Japan to our American community.

Opened in 2015, Nishiki is renowned for its noodles, made in-house daily, and its tonkotsu is cooked for 24 hours.

The Smoke Bomb Black ramen with black roasted garlic sauce is the fan favorite, though the spicy miso runs a close second. You can actually watch them making noodles through the restaurant window, which never gets old.

Must-Try: Smoke Bomb Black ramen

Locations: 8055 Armour St, 1040 University Ave

Tajima Ramen

7 San Diego Locations | Reliable & Accessible

Thanks to owner Sam Morikizono and his talented staff, Tajima has earned a reputation as one of San Diego’s top Japanese restaurants. With six locations around the county, Tajima is probably the most accessible quality ramen you’ll find.

Everything honors the purity of Japanese taste and style, and their irresistible selection of ramen is made from scratch.

The North Park location is particularly popular, with customizable options and an open kitchen that allows you to watch talented chefs create the perfect bowl.

Must-Try: Black garlic ramen or spicy sesame

Locations: North Park, East Village, Convoy, Mercury, College Heights, Crown Point, Plaza Bonita Mall

BESHOCK Ramen

East Village & Carlsbad | Modern Japanese

BESHOCK is a Japanese eatery serving traditional Japanese and global cuisine with a unique San Diego twist by using local and fresh ingredients. This spot brings a more modern, upscale approach to ramen while keeping things approachable.

The atmosphere is sleek and contemporary, perfect for date night or when you want to impress someone with your sophisticated ramen knowledge.

Must-Try: Katsu Curry Ramen

Locations: 1288 Market St, 2525 El Camino Real

The Hidden Gems: Under-the-Radar Spots

Santouka Ramen

Kearny Mesa | Authentic Chain

Located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace, Santouka Ramen serves standard and tasty ramen in a casual setting where you order at the counter and sit yourself down.

This Japanese chain has a cult following, and for good reason—their shio (salt-based) ramen is light, clean, and addictive.

Lines here are shorter than at other Convoy district ramen shops, but be prepared—the shop only takes cash. The toroniku (fatty pork cheek) is incredibly tender and literally melts in your mouth.

Must-Try: Toroniku shio ramen

Location: 4240 Kearny Mesa Rd (inside Mitsuwa)

Underbelly

North Park & Little Italy | Hip & Inventive

Underbelly is a popular and hip eatery serving up Japanese cuisine among inventive and funky cocktails. This isn’t your traditional ramen shop—it’s more of a trendy spot where exceptional ramen meets craft cocktails.

The “Belly of the Beast” ramen is their signature, and honestly, the name alone makes it worth trying. Plus, where else can you get quality ramen and a whiskey passion fruit cocktail in the same place?

Must-Try: Belly of the Beast ramen

Location: 3000 Upas St, 750 W Fir St

Wa Dining Okan

Kearny Mesa | Farm-to-Table Japanese

Wa Dining Okan is a traditional Japanese eatery serving homestyle dishes sourced from its own farm, and though they may not be known for their ramen, that doesn’t mean it’s not amazing.

This is where you go when you want ramen that feels like it was made by someone’s Japanese grandmother who happens to be an incredible cook.

Must-Try: Whatever ramen they’re featuring

Location: 3860 Convoy St

The Convoy Corridor: San Diego’s Ramen Row

If you’re serious about ramen in San Diego, you’re going to end up on Convoy Street at some point. This stretch of Kearny Mesa is basically our version of a Japanese food district, and it’s where the real ramen action happens.

The beauty of Convoy is that you can easily hit multiple spots in one epic ramen crawl. Most places are within walking distance of each other, and the competition keeps everyone on their game.

Pro tip: Parking can be a nightmare, especially on weekends. Come early or be prepared to walk a few blocks.

Ramen Etiquette: How to Eat Like You Know What You’re Doing

Slurp Away: Seriously, slurping is encouraged. It aerates the broth and shows appreciation.

Chopsticks & Spoon: Use chopsticks for noodles and toppings, spoon for broth. Don’t be afraid to alternate between them.

Timing Matters: Ramen is meant to be eaten quickly while it’s hot.

Customize Wisely: Most places let you adjust spice level, noodle firmness, and richness. Don’t be shy about asking.

Finish Strong: It’s totally acceptable to drink the remaining broth straight from the bowl.

When to Go & What to Expect

Peak Times: Weeknight dinners (7 PM–9 PM) and weekend lunches are the busiest. If you’re hitting the popular spots, plan accordingly.

Wait Times: The best places often have waits, especially Menya Ultra and RakiRaki. Use this time to build anticipation.

Pricing: Expect to pay $12–18 for a solid bowl. This isn’t college ramen—you’re paying for real ingredients and actual skill.

Parking: Convoy Street parking is notoriously challenging. Consider rideshare or embrace the walk.

The Bottom Line

San Diego’s ramen scene has evolved into something genuinely special.

We’ve got Michelin-recognized masters working alongside innovative local chefs, traditional techniques meeting California ingredients, and enough variety to keep even the most dedicated ramen enthusiast exploring for months.

The best part? Unlike some food trends that feel precious or pretentious, ramen culture here remains wonderfully inclusive.

Whether you’re a college student stretching your food budget or a foodie looking for your next obsession, there’s a perfect bowl waiting somewhere in the city.

See you there!

So grab some friends, pick a neighborhood, and start slurping your way through the best ramen in San Diego.

Just remember to pace yourself—with this many incredible options, you’re going to want to come back for more. And trust us, once you find your perfect bowl, you’ll understand why people become ramen evangelists.

It’s not just food; it’s a warm, comforting experience that somehow makes everything better, one noodle at a time.

See you there, San Diego!

There’s something magical about good food served from a window. No pretense, no wait for a table, just honest-to-goodness deliciousness handed right to you. When it comes to finding the best food trucks in San Diego, the scene has seriously evolved from the basic taco wagon days—though those still have their place—into a legitimate culinary force.

With over 150 food trucks scattered across the county, figuring out which ones are worth your time (and calories) can feel overwhelming. That’s where we come in.

We’ve done the legwork, followed the Instagram accounts, and yes, stood in those lines so you know exactly which trucks deserve a spot on your must-try list.

The Heavy Hitters: San Diego’s Food Truck All-Stars

Shawarma Guys

South Park | Mediterranean

Let’s start with the obvious choice. When Yelp named Shawarma Guys the #1 restaurant in the entire country in 2020, it wasn’t just San Diego that took notice—the whole food world did.

Bryan Zeto’s story is the American dream meets Mediterranean cuisine: former cell phone salesman turns food truck owner, gets featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, and now has brick-and-mortar locations in La Mesa and Mira Mesa.

But here’s the thing—the hype is real. The wagyu beef shawarma is tender enough to cut with a fork, and those wagyu beef egg rolls are basically what happens when Middle Eastern meets Asian fusion in the best possible way.

The truck still parks at 3012 Grape Street in South Park daily, and yes, there’s usually a line, but it moves faster than you’d think.

Kiko’s Place Seafood

Mission Valley | Mexican Seafood

If you’ve ever been to Baja and fallen in love with proper mariscos, Kiko’s Place is your San Diego salvation. This isn’t some trendy interpretation of Mexican seafood—it’s the real deal, established in Baja California back in 1983 and now bringing those same authentic flavors to the corner of Hazard Center Drive and Mission Center Road.

The ceviche here is what dreams are made of. Fresh fish, shrimp, and octopus, all swimming in lime juice with just the right amount of cilantro and onion. Their fish tacos are legit too, topped with that creamy chipotle sauce that has just enough heat.

Fair warning: lunch lines can get long, but the generous portions make the wait worthwhile.

Leilani’s Food Truck

Various Locations | Hawaiian

Sometimes you need a little island life in your day, and Leilani’s delivers exactly that. This Hawaiian plate lunch spot serves up the kind of comfort food that makes you want to book a flight to Maui, but thankfully, it’s much closer and way more affordable.

Their plate lunches are the real star—think teriyaki chicken, katsu, or garlic shrimp served over rice with mac salad and other sides.

But don’t sleep on the spam musubi if you’re feeling adventurous. It’s basically sushi’s fun Hawaiian cousin, and once you try it, you’ll understand why locals are obsessed.

Check their Instagram for locations.

The Flavor Specialists: Trucks Doing One Thing Really, Really Well

Birria El Rey

Golden Hill | Mexican

If you haven’t jumped on the birria train yet, Birria El Rey is your boarding pass. This Golden Hill truck has turned 25th Street into a birria destination, and honestly, we’re here for it. The slow-cooked, tender beef is everything you want in birria—rich, flavorful, and perfect for dipping.

Whether you go for the traditional tacos, quesadillas, or even their birria ramen (yes, ramen), you’re getting that deep, complex flavor that only comes from hours of slow cooking.

Chef Budda Blasian Soul Food

Various Locations | Soul Food/Asian Fusion

The name pretty much tells you everything you need to know—this is where Southern soul food meets Asian flavors, and the results are spectacular.

We’re talking about fried chicken that’s been elevated with Asian-inspired seasonings and sides that make you question why every soul food spot isn’t doing fusion.

The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you’re getting. Plus, the team behind the truck is just genuinely nice, which always makes the food taste better somehow.

Check their Instagram for locations.

Sweet Treats & Coffee on Wheels

WTF Waffles

Sometimes you need waffles at noon on a Tuesday, and WTF Waffles gets that. Their rotating menu of sweet and savory waffle creations hits that perfect spot between breakfast and dessert.

Their chicken and waffles with bacon is legendary, and they’ve added snow cones to keep things cool during San Diego summers.

Check here for locations.

The Rush Coffee

For those mornings when your regular coffee shop just isn’t cutting it, The Rush Coffee trucks are scattered around San Diego serving up legitimately good coffee. Check their truck locator for your commute needs.

Where to Find the Action: San Diego’s Food Truck Hotspots

Curbside Bites Downtown

Wednesdays, 11 AM–2 PM | B Street between India and Columbia

This is San Diego’s most consistent food truck gathering. Every Wednesday, they shut down a block of B Street downtown and bring in about six rotating trucks.

It’s perfect for a midweek lunch or when you’re working downtown and need something better than another sad desk salad.

Check the truck map and calendar here.

Brewery Partnerships

San Diego’s craft beer scene and food truck culture go together like… well, beer and food. Many breweries host regular food truck nights:

Special Events

Keep an eye out for festivals like FoodieLand at Del Mar Fairgrounds (250+ vendors, not just trucks but worth mentioning) and various neighborhood block parties that bring trucks together.

Insider Tips for Food Truck Success

Follow the Socials: Most food trucks are active on Instagram and Facebook with daily location updates. This isn’t like a restaurant where you know exactly where it’ll be—you’ve got to stay connected.

Cash is King: While many trucks now accept cards, having cash speeds things up, and some trucks still prefer it.

Peak Hours: Lunch rush (11:30 AM–1:30 PM) is real. If you can swing it, hit trucks slightly before or after for shorter lines.

Weather Matters: San Diego weather is usually perfect, but food trucks sometimes skip days during our rare rainy spells.

Bring Patience: Good food truck food is made to order. If you’re in a huge hurry, maybe stick to fast food. But the wait is always worth it.

The Bottom Line

San Diego‘s food truck scene reflects what makes our city special—it’s diverse, creative, and always delicious. Whether you’re craving authentic Mexican seafood, Mediterranean fusion, or just want to try something completely new, there’s a truck out there with your name on it.

The beauty of food trucks is their accessibility. No reservations, no dress code, no pretense—just great food served by people who are passionate about what they’re making.

In a city that can sometimes feel expensive and exclusive, food trucks remain one of our most democratic dining experiences.

See you there!

So grab some friends, follow a few trucks on Instagram, and start exploring the best food trucks in San Diego.

See you there, San Diego!

The roller skating revival continues in San Diego as Downtown Skate makes its comeback to the Marriott Marquis Marina. After a successful holiday run that had us all nostalgic for simpler times, this outdoor rink is back for a summer stint that promises to be even better than before.

Skating With a View

We can’t think of many places where we can lace up roller skates and glide around with the San Diego Bay sparkling in front of us. The 6,000-square-foot rink takes over the Marina Terrace, creating this surreal experience where we’re skating under palm trees with boats drifting by in the background.

It’s quintessentially San Diego in the best possible way. The location puts us right in the heart of downtown’s best attractions.

Whether we want to grab dinner in the Gaslamp afterward, catch a show at The Rady Shell, or just wander through Seaport Village, everything’s within walking distance. It’s the kind of setup that makes for a perfect day or evening out.

Downtown Skate Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina

Sweet Treats and Good Beats

Cali Cream is back with another limited-edition flavor created just for Downtown Skate. We loved their holiday collaboration, so we’re curious to see what summer-inspired creation they’ve come up with this time. Having quality ice cream on hand makes perfect sense when we’re working up a sweat on the rink.

The weekend DJ sets add exactly the energy this kind of event needs. Plus, all day on July 4th, we’ll have live music keeping our rhythm while we skate. There’s something magical about good music, ocean views, and the simple joy of rolling around on eight wheels.

July 4th Front Row Seats

Here’s where Downtown Skate gets really special. The rink offers front-row seating for the Big Bay Boom fireworks show on Independence Day.

We can’t imagine a better way to watch San Diego’s massive Fourth of July celebration than from roller skates with the bay spread out in front of us.

The Full Marina Experience

While we’re there, the Marriott’s summer SPLASH weekends will be happening too. The Smoke & Sizzle BBQ hut on the pool deck adds another dining option, and restaurants like Agave Bar & Grill and Marina Kitchen will be open for anyone who wants to make it a longer visit.

Even if we’re not staying at the hotel, we can still enjoy the food and drinks.

Downtown Skate

See you there!

Downtown Skate at Marriott Marquis Marina brings retro fun to one of San Diego’s most scenic locations for the perfect summer adventure.

San Diego got a serious culinary upgrade with Little Italy’s Barra Oliba, the Spanish-inspired bistro that opened late in 2024.

Eduardo Bustamante from Crudo Cevicheria & Oyster Bar and Ernesto Casillas from Zibaris Hospitality Group have created something special here, bringing Basque, Galician, and Catalonian cuisine that is both authentic and refreshingly different from the typical Mediterranean offerings we see around the neighborhood.

Puffer Malarkey’s Bluefin Tuna Tasting Returns for Peak Season

Peak bluefin tuna season means one thing in San Diego: Puffer Malarkey Collective’s annual tasting menu is back. Chef Aidan Owens and Tara Monsod know exactly when to capitalize on the best local catch, and their three-course bluefin experience at Le Coq, Herb & Sea, and Herb & Wood proves it.

The $65 menu showcases weekly deliveries from San Diego fishermen, with standout dishes like Aidan’s Tuna Agnolotti with au poivre and Tara’s Tuna Wellington. What we love about this approach is the commitment to truly local sourcing—we’re talking fish that was swimming in our waters just days before it hits your plate.

The best part might be the occasional tuna delivery that comes straight through the dining room. It’s the kind of theatrical moment that reminds you exactly how fresh this fish is, and honestly, it adds to the whole experience of celebrating what makes San Diego’s seafood scene special.

📆 Every Thursday starting June 26, through tuna season
📍 7837 Herschel Ave, La Jolla | 131 W D St, Encinitas | 2210 Kettner Blvd, San Diego

Lionfish and Casamigos Team Up for Four-Course Tequila Experience

When Lionfish’s Executive Chef JoJo Ruiz decides to craft a tequila pairing dinner, we pay attention. The downtown spot is hosting an exclusive Casamigos collaboration that sounds like exactly the kind of elevated night out we’ve been craving.

The evening kicks off with a Casamigos Cristalino toast and tequila-cured kampachi amuse-bouche, then moves through four thoughtfully paired courses.

We’re talking bluefin tuna tartare tostada with a Casamigos Blanco cocktail featuring mango foam, octopus al pastor paired with a smoky mezcal creation, and charcoal-grilled wagyu striploin alongside an Añejo cocktail with coffee liqueur and mole bitters.

The finale? Tequila-lime tres leches with Casamigos-laced milk soak and mezcal whipped cream.

At $100 per person including tax and gratuity, it’s positioned as a special occasion dinner rather than a casual night out. But given Lionfish’s reputation for coastal cuisine and the level of detail in each pairing, it feels like the kind of experience that justifies the splurge.

CUCINA Urbana Turns Sweet 16 With $16 Throwback Menu

Sixteen years ago, Tracy Borkum made a gutsy move that would reshape San Diego dining. She literally sold her fine dining furniture on the sidewalk and launched CUCINA urbana right in the thick of the Great Recession.

Her gamble? Ditch the white tablecloth formalities, lead with killer design, and build something around farm-to-table warmth with everything under $20.

That bold pivot didn’t just survive—it thrived. CUCINA urbana helped define what San Diego dining became post-recession, grew into a 10-restaurant empire across SoCal, and snagged one of California’s first Michelin Bib Gourmand awards (which they still hold today).

CUCINA urbana

Now they’re celebrating their “Sweet 16” the CUCINA way—by giving back to the community that supported them. Throughout June, they’re rolling out a $16 throwback menu packed with cult classics, brand-new dishes, and sommelier-selected wines.

Yes, you read that right—$16 bottles of CUCINA-quality wine to take home. The special menu runs Sunday through Wednesday at all San Diego and Orange County locations.

📆 Throughout June, Sunday–Wednesday
📍 Available at Bankers Hill, Del Mar, Newport Beach, and Irvine

Coin Haus Brings Back Monday Night Arcade Vibes

Sometimes the best Monday night cure is exactly what you’d expect: cheap games and good beer. Coin Haus in La Mesa Village gets this completely, which is why they’ve launched Summer Mondays with unlimited arcade play for just five bucks.

We’re talking classic arcade heaven with Game of Thrones Pinball, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Pac-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Duck Hunt. Plus, with 50 beers and ciders on tap through their self-pour system, you can sample whatever catches your eye while you’re dominating the high scores.

The genius move? They’ve partnered with Surf Rider Pizza Co. across the street, so you can order food and have it delivered right to your table inside Coin Haus. It’s the kind of seamless setup that makes a Monday night feel way less like a Monday night.

📆 Every Monday through September 1, 6 PM–10 PM

The Marine Room’s High Tide Dinner Series Returns With New Chef

The Marine Room’s High Tide Dinner Series is back for summer 2025, and this time it’s led by newly appointed Executive Chef Ananda Bareño.

For those who haven’t experienced this La Jolla tradition, it’s one of those rare dining experiences where nature provides the entertainment as waves crash against the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows.

Chef Bareño has structured two distinct experiences around the tides. Rising Tide Dining offers à la carte options or a three-course menu for $125, letting you watch the tide roll in.

High Tide Dining includes a four-course dinner, live music, and sunset toast for $165, or you can upgrade to the Chef’s Table Experience for $250 with sommelier pairings and additional courses.

Summer High Tide Dinner Series at Marine Room

The timing is everything here—they’ve scheduled the series around the full moon and La Jolla’s highest tides. It’s the kind of experience that reminds you why some restaurants become destinations beyond just the food, though with Chef Bareño’s coastal approach, the culinary side should hold its own against the dramatic setting.

📆 June 23–25, July 22–24, August 20–22

The Gondola Company Partners With Pure Bliss for Elevated Group Cruises

The Gondola Company has always nailed the romantic cruise game, but their small group offerings deserve more attention. This summer, they’re making it even easier to gather up to six friends for something that feels special without requiring a major event to justify it.

The real game-changer is their new partnership with Pure Bliss Picnics, which adds a curated dining element to the experience.

For $59, you can upgrade any cruise with options like The Mediterranean Picnic (hummus, pita, Persian cucumbers, and seasonal fruit) or The Elegant Charcuterie Board with fine cheeses and cured meats. There’s also The Fruit & Dessert Picnic for those who want to lean into the sweet side.

Pure Bliss Picnics

What we appreciate is that this fills a specific gap in San Diego’s group activity scene. It’s more elevated than a basic harbor cruise but less formal than a full dinner cruise. Plus, when you’re floating around the bay with a proper charcuterie spread, it’s hard not to feel like you’re doing summer right.

Top of the Hyatt Goes Full Dive Bar (40 Floors Up)

We never thought we’d see the day when one of downtown’s most upscale rooftop spots would embrace dive bar vibes, but here we are—and honestly, we’re kind of obsessed with the concept.

Top of the Hyatt has transformed into “Dive Bar in the Sky” through August, and it’s exactly the kind of unexpected twist our summer nights needed.

Picture this: all the neon lights, vintage arcade games, and dive bar charm we love, but with those incredible panoramic views of San Diego and Coronado Island that only a 40th-floor perch can deliver. They’ve even thrown in a free photo booth because apparently they know us too well.

The cocktail menu gets the reimagined treatment—think elevated takes on dive bar classics that actually taste as good as the view looks. Add in summer theme nights with trivia, karaoke, and live music, and we’ve got ourselves a high-altitude hangout that’s way more fun than it has any right to be.

It’s the perfect excuse to hit downtown when we want dive bar energy but also want to feel fancy about it.

📆 Now through August 1
📍1 Market Place, San Diego

Café Madeleine Opens Third Location With Latin Twist in Barrio Logan

Café Madeleine is celebrating their 15th anniversary by expanding into Barrio Logan with a new concept called simply “Madeleine,” and the twist makes perfect sense for the neighborhood.

Founder Christine Perez and her son Dante Angotti are building on what works—breakfast, crepes, paninis—while adding Latin influences that reflect Perez’s Los Angeles upbringing.

The menu gets interesting with dishes like serrano ham benedict, crepa con rajas, and tortillas española alongside their classic French-inspired offerings.

They’re also introducing sangria spritzers, which feels like exactly what Barrio Logan needed. The combination of their established pastry game and Illy coffee with these new Latin touches should create something that feels both familiar and fresh.

After building a strong following in South Park and North Park over the past 15 years, this Barrio Logan expansion shows they understand how to adapt their concept to different neighborhoods while keeping what makes them special.

Spill the Beans Finally Opens Drive-Thru in Ocean Beach

After years of anticipation, Spill the Beans has officially opened their fifth location in Ocean Beach, and this one comes with something new: their first-ever drive-thru. Located at the corner of Newport Avenue and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, it’s positioned perfectly for those pre-beach coffee runs we’re always trying to optimize.

The 900-square-foot space features a walk-up window with outdoor seating for about 50, plus that drive-thru option that honestly feels overdue for a brand this popular.

Spill the Beans drive-thru ocean beach

Their signature bagels, made with just five ingredients and boiled in agave syrup, remain the star attraction. We’re talking creative flavors like Sundried Tomato & Cheese and Bacon & White Cheddar, plus artisan butters and handmade cream cheeses like White Truffle & Parmesan and Bananas Foster.

Beyond bagels, they’re serving up “bagel sandos” like the San Dieggo with two over-medium eggs and peppered bacon, plus lunch options like the B.B.L.(t).

The drink menu covers everything from cold brew to matcha, with oat, almond, coconut, and macadamia milk alternatives.

📆 Now Open | Hours through June 30: 7 AM–2 PM | 6 AM–8 PM starting July 1

Breakfast Republic Celebrates 10 Years With Birthday Pancakes

It’s wild to think that Breakfast Republic started as one quirky North Park café and has now grown into a Southern California breakfast empire with locations from San Diego to LA.

To mark their 10th anniversary, they’re bringing things back to where it all began with a special Birthday Pancakes dish available only at the original North Park spot.

The anniversary treat is exactly what you’d expect from a place that’s never taken itself too seriously: vanilla buttermilk pancakes loaded with Funfetti and buttercream, served with an actual candle for $10.

What’s impressive is how they’ve maintained their playful identity while scaling up. The egg-centric décor, creative brunch classics like Breakfast Bacon Mac N’ Cheese and Crab & Crawfish Cake Benedict, and those Pancake Flights still feel authentically Breakfast Republic.

Ten years later, they’re still the same spot that figured out how to make breakfast fun without being gimmicky.

📆 June 26–July 31

Arely’s June Menu Brings Parisian Flair to Clairemont

We’ve been keeping tabs on Arely’s Patisserie & Bistro, and their June specials are giving us serious reasons to make the trek to Clairemont. This family-owned spot is leaning into their French roots with some creative additions that feel both comforting and elevated.

The House Bagel Sandwich layers ham, bacon, cheddar, mayo, egg, and lettuce on their housemade bagel, while the Steak n Eggs pairs ribeye with two eggs any style. The Crème Brûlée French Toast sounds like weekend morning perfection with brioche and that satisfying crack of caramelized sugar on top.

Their new barista bar is making waves with creative drinks like the Blueberry Pea Tea Palmer and Banana Bread Latte. Pair these with specialty pastries like the Strawberry Cinnamon Roll for a proper French-inspired experience.

📆 Available now through June 30
📍 4961 Clairemont Dr A, San Diego

Dive Into Weekend Bliss at Coronado’s Only Rooftop

We’ve been waiting for this moment since Dive opened earlier this year, and it’s finally here—brunch offering has officially launched at Coronado’s first and only rooftop bar. Perched atop The Bower Coronado, this spot offers panoramic coastal views stretching from Point Loma to Mexico.

brunch offering at Bower Coronado

The menu hits all the right notes with thoughtfully crafted dishes like the Lemon Lox Tartine with smoked salmon and lemon crème fraîche, indulgent Cinnamon Mascarpone French Toast, and the Dive Melt Slider featuring American wagyu. Three signature cocktails round out the daytime offerings.

What we love most is how Dive elevates the dive-bar concept while keeping things approachable. The open-air setting creates an atmosphere that’s both relaxed and special—perfect for those weekend mornings that naturally flow into golden hour cocktails.

📆 Open daily, 8 AM–3 PM
📍 1417 Orange Ave, Coronado

Estancia La Jolla’s New Chef Brings Global Flair to Both Restaurants

Estancia La Jolla just brought in Executive Chef Katie Weber, and she’s already making her mark across both of the resort’s dining spots. Her approach blends global influences with local ingredients in a way that feels fresh without trying too hard to reinvent everything.

Mustangs & Burros

At Mustangs & Burros, she’s leaning into that refined Baja fusion with dishes like Peruvian Ceviche and Hoja Santa Roasted Mexican Seabass alongside a massive 32oz Creekstone Tomahawk for those ready to commit.

The Local Seafood Molcajete and Braised Barbacoa Lamb Shank show she’s not afraid to go bold with flavors and presentation.

Mustangs and Burros

The Palma Bar & Grill

Over at The Palma Bar & Grill, the vibe shifts to coastal California comfort with globally inspired touches. The signature Estancia Wagyu Burger and Smoked Tofu BLT hit those familiar notes, while the Market Fish Ceviche and tropical fruit with house-harvested Estancia honey add some unexpected elements.

The cocktail program includes a House-Made Kumquat Aperol Spritz and La Palma Pineapple, which sound perfect for poolside sipping.

Postino’s Bruschetta Contest is Back

Postino WineCafé is bringing back their annual Battle of the Bruschetta for round three, and we’re already planning our tasting schedule. This summer-long showdown features six creative bruschetta creations that go way beyond your typical tomato-basil situation.

The Craving

The lineup includes Everything Lox with whipped cream cheese and smoked salmon, Chicken Caesar Chop that turns the classic salad into handheld form, and Supreme that sounds like it raided the best pizza toppings.

There’s also Boquerones with white anchovies, Hot Honey Sweet Potato with ricotta, and Cherry Cannoli for dessert lovers.

Here’s how it works: each two-week series features two competing flavors, and we get to vote on our favorites. The winner earns a permanent spot on the fall menu. Last year’s champion was French Onion, so the competition gets taken seriously around here.

Saint Coco Coffee Bar Crosses the Border to North Park

North Park is getting its first taste of Saint Coco Coffee Bar and we’re here for this cross-border expansion. The Tijuana-based brand has built a solid reputation with seven locations south of the border, and now they’re bringing that energy to University Avenue.

What caught our attention is their approach to design—they’re blending minimalist aesthetics with Mexican influences in a way that should feel right at home in North Park’s eclectic neighborhood scene.

It’s not trying to be another generic coffee shop, and the fact that they’ve already proven themselves in Tijuana gives us confidence they understand how to create a space people actually want to hang out in.

The timing feels perfect too. North Park has always been good at embracing businesses that bring something different to the table, and a successful Tijuana coffee concept expanding north is exactly the kind of authentic cross-cultural addition the neighborhood does well.

The lineup hits all the right notes, from the Dublin Old Fashioned made with Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey to the Espresso Yourself Martini with Cutwater vodka and Borghetti espresso liqueur.

But the real standout might be the Merrill-Mania Margarita, their tribute to Padres superstar Jackson Merrill, mixing Cutwater blanco tequila with pineapple juice and jalapeños for that perfect sweet-heat combo.

The Hilton San Diego Bayfront just launched something we didn’t know we needed but absolutely do. The Overlook at Odysea is their new summer-long pop-up that’s basically designed around the perfect Aperol Spritz moment, complete with sweeping bay views that make every sip feel like a vacation.

This outdoor lounge captures that Italian aperitivo vibe with colorful umbrellas, plush pillows, and cozy firepits scattered across the patio.

Beyond the Aperol Spritzes and Miraval wines, they’ve added bocce courts because apparently they really want us to embrace the full Mediterranean experience. The setup works whether you’re catching a Padres game nearby or heading to a Rady Shell concert afterward.

The Aperol promo team is bringing extra energy on July 4 and August (National Spritz Day, naturally) with giveaways like sunglasses, hats, and flip flops. It’s the kind of thoughtful touch that makes a good spot even better, especially when you’re already sitting waterfront with a drink in hand.

📆 Running through September 7 | Special Aperol events: July 4 & August 1
📍 1 Park Blvd, San Diego

Jitters Coffee Pub’s Summer Bash Celebrates Fresh New Vibes

We’re always here for a good community celebration, and Jitters Coffee Pub is throwing exactly that. The beloved Oceanside spot is marking their fresh renovation and expanded vision with an all-day Summer Bash that feels like the neighborhood party we’ve all been waiting for.

After three decades of serving the community, Jitters has partnered with culinary pro Felix Alcaide from One Kitchen Collaborative and local Grammy winner Jason Mraz to breathe new life into the space.

The result? Extended hours, a reimagined menu, and a packed event calendar that includes everything from live music and comedy nights to DJ sets and Taco Tuesdays.

This isn’t just about better coffee (though we’re sure that’s happening too). It’s about creating that perfect third space where the community can gather, connect, and actually have somewhere to go between home and work.

The newly renovated space and parking lot will be buzzing with energy, and honestly, we can’t think of a better way to kick off this new chapter.

📆 Saturday, July 12, 12 PM–5 PM

Post-Race Retreat at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

After a day of cheering winners and nursing losses at Del Mar’s Opening Day, we know the last thing anyone wants to do is fight traffic back home. The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe gets it, which is why their Off to the Races package feels like the perfect solution for extending the track day magic.

The deal includes shuttle service to and from Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, so we can focus on picking winners instead of designated drivers.

There’s also a $100 resort credit that works at their spa, Lilian’s restaurant, or Bing’s Bar for those essential post-race cocktails. Plus, they throw in a bottle of bubbly because celebrating track day properly requires bubbles.

If we’re planning ahead, their Mila Moursi Spa is offering a Winner’s Circle Radiance facial designed to get our skin photo-ready for all those track day selfies. Because looking good in the winner’s circle photos is almost as important as actually picking the winner.

📅 July 17–20
📍 5951 Linea Del Cielo, Rancho Santa Fe

Who needs a flight to the Amalfi Coast when paradise is only 22 miles away? Catalina Island offers that dreamy Mediterranean feel—minus the jet lag and international price tag. It’s the SoCal escape we forget is basically in our own backyard.

Think Amalfi Coast—minus the jet lag and international price tag.

And to add extra incentive, Catalina Island debuts exciting new summer adventures that blend beachside relaxation, small-town charm, and unique experiences for travelers seeking quick getaways within sailing distance of San Diego.

Rollerskating in an Iconic Setting

The island’s biggest buzz this summer is Skate the Wrigley Ballroom, a brand-new roller-skating experience inside the legendary Catalina Casino.

You can lace up vintage-style skates and glide around the historic circular dance floor while taking in sweeping views of Avalon Bay—combining nostalgia with one of California’s most distinctive architectural landmarks.

This unique experience transforms the historic ballroom into an active entertainment venue that captures both the island’s golden age glamour and contemporary fun.

Beachside Dining With Toes in the Sand

Descanso Beach Club offers something rare in California—the chance to legally sip cocktails with your toes in the sand. As Catalina’s only beachside restaurant and bar, it provides food, drinks, and private cabanas on one of the state’s last publicly accessible private beaches.

Descanso Beach

The waterfront dining scene continues with Pier 24, featuring harbor views and fresh coastal fare, while Flx Biergarten brings the island’s first biergarten experience with craft brews and light bites in an inviting open-air atmosphere.

Adventure Beyond the Beach

For those seeking thrills, the Zip Line Eco Tour sends you soaring above Descanso Canyon along five exhilarating zip lines with breathtaking ocean views. The Catalina Casino Tour provides behind-the-scenes access to Avalon’s iconic landmark and reveals the storied past of this remarkable island.

El Rancho Escondido offers exploration of the Wrigley family’s historic “hidden ranch,” touring the island’s rugged interior and providing insight into Catalina’s fascinating heritage beyond the waterfront.

Perfect Pop-Up Escape Destination

With its unique combination of vintage charm, outdoor adventures, and beachside relaxation, Catalina Island delivers the ideal summer retreat if you want memorable experiences without a long travel time. The island’s compact size and diverse offerings make it perfect for both day trips and extended stays.

The legendary Hotel del Coronado announced the completion of its Victorian building revitalization, marking the final milestone in Blackstone Real Estate’s comprehensive $550 million transformation that honors the property’s National Historic Landmark status while creating a modern resort experience.

Hotel del Coronado transformation

Victorian Charm Meets Contemporary Luxury

The transformation of the Victorian Neighborhood encompasses everything from the iconic front porch and lobby to the main entry and drive experience.

Every Victorian guestroom received updates that balance historical accuracy with modern comfort, while the Victorian garden courtyard has been restored to its original design complete with historic walkways and pergolas.

No two guest rooms are exactly alike, adding to the property’s unique charm. The design reimagines Victorian aesthetics with brighter floral textiles and furnishings that thoughtfully combine caning and wicker with deep wood tones, creating a timeless yet fresh ambiance that feels both luxurious and historically authentic.

Two New Dining Destinations Debut

Veranda

Veranda restaurant draws inspiration from the hotel’s historic wraparound veranda that once offered 1,800 feet of continuous oceanfront walking when the hotel opened in 1888.

The menu celebrates Southern California roots with locally sourced ingredients, featuring everything from grilled California Artichokes to Certified Angus Beef Steaks and Dungeness Crab Wedge.

Nobu Del Coronado

Nobu Del Coronado brings Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature style to the property with 156 seats, including 120 beautifully situated al fresco with Pacific Ocean views. The restaurant features Nobu classics like Black Cod with Miso alongside locally inspired Southern California dishes unique to this location.

Event Spaces Blend History With Modern Technology

The legendary Victorian ballrooms—Crown Room, Coronet Room, and Ocean Ballroom—underwent meticulous restoration that preserves historical elements while integrating state-of-the-art technology.

Highlights include a rediscovered 1888 fresco in the Ocean Ballroom, beautifully refinished original wood floors, and carefully restored historic details.

Crown Room The Del

Garden Courtyard Returns to Original Glory

The central garden courtyard restoration includes the return of the cherished Naiad Queen Fountain, featuring a bronze reproduction of Charles Cordier’s statue that graced the space until 1912. Victorian-era botanicals, including bromeliads, camellias, cycads, and specimen palms, create an authentic period landscape.

Resort-Wide Excellence

Beyond the Victorian building, the comprehensive development transformed the entire resort with new properties like Shore House and Beach Village under LXR Hotels & Resorts, the debut of Ocean Club in historic Windsor Cottage, and upgrades to dining, spa, fitness, and retail experiences throughout the property.

See you there!

We’re ready to experience Hotel del Coronado’s stunning $550 million transformation. Cheers to a next chapter for The Del that honors its legendary past while embracing the future.
